Keep what you learn
Forgetting is natural. Here’s how to slow it down and build lasting knowledge.
You ace a test on Monday and most of it is gone by Friday. Forgetting is fastest in the first days after learning — which is exactly when a little review does the most good.
What the science says
Review before you forget
Well-timed, spaced reviews keep memories from fading (Cepeda et al., 2006).
Sleep on it
Sleep helps consolidate new memories into long-term storage (Rasch & Born, 2013).
Use it
Knowledge you recall and apply regularly stays accessible far longer than knowledge you only reread.
Try this
- ✓Plan short reviews for new material on day 1, 3, 7 and 30.
- ✓Keep a regular sleep routine, especially before exams.
- ✓Each week, recall something you learned a month ago.
- ✓Explain older topics when they connect to new ones.
In Saraswati Sadhana
Retention is the focus of Days 25–30, with delayed-recall questions that check what you still remember.
